Branded in the 80s!

The Podcasts

In trying to get myself podcasting again I've decided to try and stop being so precious with the recording and research and just do it.  My new idea to is too keep these episodes short, like under 15 minutes.  Micro-podcasting.  Anyway, here's the first microcast which is all about the great golden age we're living in as far as toys are concerned…

In this episode I talk about all the properties and characters that have toys these days like the Goonies, Akira, Edward Scissorhands, Snake Plissken from Escape from New York, Ash from Army of Darkness, the new Matty Collector Ghostbusters figures, the new Matty Collector He-Man figures, as well as some older stuff that could use some new figures, namely the Karate Kid and V.

Talk about nostalgia! Hearing Branded in the 80s again takes me all the way back to 2006! 15-22 minutes is for me the ideal podcast length. I like everything about the minicasts but the music is a little loud compared to your voice. I have to adjust my volume or my ears get blasted.

I was thinking a stateside relaunch of Robotech or any of the Shogun Warriors would be awesome. It would seem like a no-brainer to import the current toys and cartoons being made for those lines' Japanese equivalents but I guess there's toy politics involved. Plus we might be at giant robot saturation right now in the US. It may seem weird but maybe there's no room anymore for more than one player in a certain genre. Everything has to be extremely different from everything else.

There are some rumblings that we'll see full on relaunches of Micronauts and Voltron. Good for them but I'm a little sad that I'll never see a Rick Hunter or Raydeen in the toy aisles again. And I've totally written off Go-Bots, which deserves a comeback if for no other reason than because Scooter would make an awesome Segway.

Esteban - Thanks for pointing the music out. I need to listen to these on headphones (just on the computer speakers it sounds alright, but I know there can be a world of difference.

Yeah, that Micronauts thing sort of came out of the blue. I was really expecting a relaunch of the Thundercats or event eh 6 Million Dollar Man before the Micronauts. Even though I didn't grow up on them, I'd really like to see a re-launch of the Shogun Warriors, or at least a relaunch of ROM Spaceknight...
